Construction Week Online: Global mining giants pick autonomous trucks to cut costs

Autonomous vehicles have been operating in natural resources industries for a while now, and so far shown very impressive results.

Komatsu and Caterpillar combined for 2.5B tonnes hauled over a handful a sites so far, without a lost time incident.

Fleets are reporting a 15% reduction in haulage costs, 15% increased equipment longevity, and 10% reduction in both fuel and maintenance costs.

Automation is not limited to trucks; a fully automated train is currently running an 800 km haul in Australia.
